Enver Chakartash is a costume designer for stage and screen.

Creating highly aestheticized worlds, Enver is particularly interested in the visceral possibilities of costume design to develop character, story and emotional narrative.

Enver was born in north east London, where they grew up in “the rag trade”— their family, Turkish Cypriot immigrants, worked in and ran a clothing factory on Commercial Road. Being in the factory instilled in Enver an understanding of clothing and textiles and a strong work ethic. Here, at a young age, their design process began germinating. Enver went on to study Drama at the University of Bristol, with a focus on costume design, and moved to New York City in 2010.

Enver’s visual sensibilities have led to ongoing collaborations with multiple prolific performance and contemporary art makers. They are a company member of The Wooster Group, Tina Satter/Half Straddle and Reggie Wilson/Fist & Heel Performance Group.

Enver’s work has been presented internationally and reimagined for numerous performance and gallery spaces across the globe including: BAM, The Public Theater, Steppenwolf, Walker Center for the Arts, Schaubühne, Centre Pompidou, the Barbican, the Sydney Opera House, Jacob’s Pillow, MoMA, The Whitney Museum, the ICA London, and many others.

Enver is represented by Rachel Viola, UTA and is a member of USA Local 829.

Upcoming: House of Dance at the Schaubühne, Berlin.
